Pond Life Sketches

Pond Life was a Peterson Guide book project of Sarah Landry’s that she was unable to complete for personal reasons. The illustrations presented here are preliminary drawings in pencil, based on Sarah’s usual exhaustive research. As drawings they have artistic value in their own right. They also offer insight in the working method of a natural science illustrator. In some ways the absence of “finish” in these sketches helps to reveal the underlying compositional arrangement of shapes and linear rhythms that bring detailed finished work to life.
